5 Possible Holiday Presents for Any Rock and Roll Enthusiast

Now that the Thanksgiving holiday has passed and December rapidly approaches, it's time to start shopping for holiday gifts. I do almost all of my shopping online every year and today is the infamous "Internet Monday", the Internet's equivalent of Black Friday when everyone goes shopping for holiday gifts, and so I thought I might you help along your gift search with some great products that are on my list of products to check out.

There are plenty of great rock and roll related products to consider for your favorite music enthusiast, a few of which I've already reviewed for the Soul of Rock 'n' Roll. The following 5 items are a few more things I haven't been able to check out in depth yet, but look very interesting. I'm looking forward to adding these to my collection of rock and roll memorabilia and bet that any other rock enthusiast might feel the same way.

1: The Other Side of the Mirror: Bob Dylan Live at Newport Folk Festival 1963-65 - DVD release
Although I've seen a lot of the footage of Bob Dylan playing Newport back in the 60s, I'm still looking forward to checking out this DVD release. The track listing contains some of Dylan's most famous songs, but I think one of the most interesting parts of this DVD will be to see a bit of how Dylan evolved during the early 60s from folk to more rock and roll styles. Looks like a DVD that any Bob Dylan fan would like having.

2: Chuck Berry: Hail! Hail! Rock n' Roll – 4 Disc DVD set
This 4 DVD tribute to rock and roll pioneering legend, Chuck Berry, starts with the feature film capturing the all star celebration of Berry's 60th birthday, arranged by Keith Richards. The event included plenty of big names including Little Richard, Eric Clapton, Willie Dixon, Bo Diddley, Robert Cray and even rare footage of a duet between Berry and John Lennon. It looks like there is plenty of bonus features as well including rare rehearsal footage never before seen. There's also a 2 disc version, but I think the additional second two discs look worthwhile.

3: Eric Clapton: Crossroads Guitar Festival 2007 – DVD set
The concert of the summer captured on DVD. I was lucky enough to attend this concert event and I'll say that it was easily the best concert event I've ever attended and if this DVD set contains even one tenth of the amazing performances from that day, I highly recommend it. With plenty of once in a life time jams ranging from blues to country to rock, including the infamous collaboration between Eric Clapton and Steve Winwood playing plenty of Blind Faith material, this one looks like a must have.

You can also find the 2004 festival on DVD here: Crossroads Guitar Festival

4: The McCartney Years - 3 DVD Set spanning the Career of Paul McCartney
This three volume DVD set designed to chronicle the career of Paul McCartney is one I've been thinking about picking up since I first heard it was released. With volume one and two containing all of McCartney's promo music videos dating from way back to the 1970s and volume three containing live footage from '76, '91 and 2004, including the unplugged session, Live Aid, Super Bowl Performances and others, there is plenty of great material. Check this set out for your favorite Beatles or McCartney enthusiast for sure.

5: Led Zeppelin: The Song Remains the Same – Collectors Edition DVDs & Remastered/Expanded Album
These two releases are number one and two on my list this year (unless you count asking for confirmation of a Zeppelin concert in Chicago in the coming year). This re-release of both the album and the DVD of what was originally the only Zeppelin live material available, has been completely remastered for better sound and picture quality to coincide with the band's reunion show. It also has been expanded with additional footage and audio tracks so it's definitely worth picking up even if you already own both the album and the film. I couldn't think of a better holiday gift for any music or rock and roll enthusiast than Led Zeppelin live material.

You can find the DVD release from Amazon here: Led Zeppelin: The Song Remains the Same (Collector's Edition)

And the re-release of the album here: The Song Remains The Same (Remastered / Expanded) (2CD)

There's also a new album from the Eagles out, a Best of Led Zeppelin CD/DVD release, the release of the Beatles film Help! on expanded DVD and plenty of other rock and roll related memorabilia out there for sale as well so don't limit yourself to just these suggestions.

Also, if you're feeling in the holiday spirit, don't hesitate to make a donation here to the Soul of Rock 'n' Roll so that I can keep operating this site to it's fullest potential in the new year. Your support is appreciated.

Best of luck in your holiday shopping.
